Mira was appropriately named, being the miracle that she is. Mira was born to our senior mare, Cappy, at 283 days. She was tiny, weak and unable to survive on her own. We knew for months that carrying this foal to term was going to be difficult for Cappy so we were thankfully prepared and had a plan. Cappy delivered little Mira without any issues and all seemed well for the first few hours. But as our plan dictated we had the vet out as soon as she was born and it was decided she needed to be hospitalized.
Mira's organs were working but underdeveloped, she couldn't digest her mother's milk and she couldn't regulate her body temperature. This was along with a host of blood irregularities. She spent the first 8 days of her life in intensive care at Mid Rivers Equine Center but in the end all was well! Mira was a tiny 13" at birth and weighed under 10lbs. She continued to show signs of being premature for the first year of her life, but is now perfectly normal with the exception of her size. Her dam is 29" and her sire is 33.25" but Mira stands a mere 24" at 18 months of age! We expect her to mature around 27" or so.
We are thankful that even with all her early difficulties, today she is healthy, sassy and very beautiful! Mira attended the AMHR National Show in Tulsa in September of 2007 and made us very proud. She was conditioned very carefully and the result was Mira bringing home a National Top Ten in the Weanling Mare 26" & Under class. There were 23 in the class and Mira was by far the tiniest standing at approximately 21".
Mira will remain at Star Ridge Acres. Due to her tiny size she may never be bred, but she will be shown occasionally as a junior mare and most certainly as a senior mare in the 28" & Under class.
Below are some additional pictures of Mira, aka Poopy Butt.

Mira comes by her exotic head honestly. Her sire is a beautiful boy named Seahorse Gold Melody Bar, a son of Johnstons Gold Bar who of course was sired by Gold Melody Boy. Her paternal granddam is also a granddaughter of Gold Melody Boy.
