When I learned in the summer of 2008 that Seahorse Farm, one of the most prestigious and well-respected breeding programs ever assembled, was planning a dispersal my immediate reaction was to see if I could acquire Spirit for my breeding program. I never imagined it would actually happen! I admire Ann Simmons and her dedication to producing the best possible miniature horse - the true Arabian in miniature - and to have a stallion that stood at the top of her breeding program is just unreal. I am grateful to Ann and wish nothing but the best for her in the future.
Above all other things, Spirit is beautiful! His body is a study in balance; his tailset is perfection; his neck is upright with a perfect arch to it; and his head is just gorgeous with perfectly shaped ears for a crown. All of the pictures we own of Spirit are taken by us, in a natural state, with no conditioning whatsoever; just his natural beauty. There aren't many 7 year old stallions out there who have never been conditioned that look like he does.
Spirit's beauty is not a fluke. His sire is the World/National Champion and Reserve Champion Senior Stallion Ten Ls Echos Captive Spirit, who is sired by World GRAND Champion Senior Stallion Little Kings Buck Echo. And everyone knows who Buck Echo is sired by - Boones Little Buckeroo - World GRAND Champion Senior Stallion and 4X World Champion Get of Sire. Spirit comes by his beauty and balance honestly! However, the true measure of a great stallion is the quality and consistency of his get. Spirit has proven himself as a sire of champion show quality foals. His foals are the cornerstone of farms all over the world. Some are in the show ring and others are part of quality breeding programs. In addition to the beauty and correctness of his foals, Spirit also produces nothing but buckskin or perlino. He is DNA tested homozygous for both black and agouti. This means that when bred to a black, bay or sorrel/chestnut mare the resulting foal can only be buckskin. When he is bred to a palomino, buckskin or smokey black mare the resulting foal will be buckskin or perlino with an equal chance of either. He has beautiful movement that will take your breath away! He really is stunningly beautiful; true Arabian elegance in miniature.
Spirit is also trained to drive. He was driven by previous owners for parades and around the farm and then in the spring of 2009 I sent him to a trainer for a refresher course. He spent 8 weeks with the trainer and really seemed to pick it all back up. However, being a totally novice driver, I found that he was too "spirited" for me to drive once I brought him home and I only drove him a handful of times before abandoning that idea. The trainer had great success with him, but I could not recommend him for a green driver. I think he needs an experienced driver and more miles on him to get him back in regular driving mode. His movement is more Pleasure than Country.
